Gov. Haley Barbour's new press secretary is earning $16,800 more than his former one, prompting some criticism because of an economic downturn that is forcing budget cuts.
Barbour's reply?
The governor's staff did not return phone calls and e-mail messages Friday.
A Watchdog:
David Williams, vice president of policy for the Washington-based watchdog group Citizens Against Government Waste, said "in the grand scheme of things, ($16,800) is not going to balance a budget or solve problems.
"But it's pretty representative of what the problem is in government. Areas they can cut, they don't," he added.
