On another front, Hutchison said that while she doesn’t expect to vote for the stimulus package sought by the Obama administration, she believes Texas shouldn’t turn down any resulting federal aid.
Perry has said he doesn’t want a stimulus bailout, though his office has also said he wouldn’t spurn the money if it came.
Hutchison said: “If Texas makes the decision to turn it down even if it passes, it would be a huge mistake.” Noting that the state could reap $2.8 billion in additional highway funding, she said: “It would not be right when we have so many needs for transportation in Texas.”
