Gov. Mark Sanford will take up to two days to decide whether he will attempt to remove members of the state Employment Security Commission as he has threatened to do if the ESC failed to provide him demographic information about the unemployed as he requested.
Sanford set a Monday deadline for the information request. The ESC says it has not given Sanford everything he requested. The ESC said it is unable to generate some information the governor wants.
ESC commissioners contend Sanford does not have the authority to fire them. But last week, S.C. Attorney General Henry McMaster said the governor has the authority to remove commissioners.
